Free DWG Viewer

Free DWG Viewer is a streamlined graphics viewer that was built from the ground up to be fully compatible with Autodesk native file formats such as DWG, DXF, and DWF, as well as with open Informative Graphics legacy formats from Brava! Desktop and MYRIAD. In addition to the standalone desktop application that can run on any Windows released after Windows 7, this package also comes together with the ActiveX control plugin that enables the opening of all supported graphics files straight from inside your favorite web browser.

Even though this app is marketed as a Viewer, it also has a single file exporting feature that many users will find useful. It can take your Autodesk CAD file and export it in a lightweight CSF format, which will compress and encrypt all your original CAD information and make it inaccessible for anyone seeking to infringe on your intellectual property and hard work.

Installation and Use

Since Free DWG Viewer needs to retain full compatibility with a wide range of CAD file formats, its installation package comes in with a size of just below 50 MB. After a quick installation procedure where you are tasked only to follow the on-screen instructions, you can finally start the app for the first time.

The interface of Free DWG Viewer is set up in a familiar style that is even simpler than in many other similar viewers and editors. The main canvas for rendering loaded files takes up the majority of the space, with no added viewpoints for different camera views. A small number of tools dispersed around the main rendering canvas are focused either on managing the rendering view (zoom level or panning) or activating the measurement tool, which is the only tool that can directly interact with the objects that are rendered by the app.  Export options are limited to firing up the printer configuration window or saving the file in the compressed CSF format.
