Performing this complicated job requires several tests to be conducted in order to diagnose the health of external devices and internal devices, whether they’re Seagate drives or not. The manufacturer of the drive doesn’t matter because its purpose can still be completed.
SeaTools for Desktop consists of a user-friendly interface with several menus where you can select from a variety of diagnostic utilities.
When you launch the program, the installed drives are automatically detected by the application. This includes both internal drives and external drives. The program also detects the model number of the drives, the status of the drives, and their firmware version. The status lets you know if a particular device is still being identified or if testing can be done now.
Choose the drive that you want to test and select a tool that is available within the “Basic Tests” menu. You can save the most time by choosing the Short Drive Self-Test and the S.M.A.R.T. Check. They’ll tell you if your drive is operating under good parameters. However, you won’t receive a detailed report from these options.
If you want your drive configuration to have a more detailed assessment done on it, then you can use the application’s advanced utilities or conduct a Long Generic test. Just be aware that these processes take a much longer time to complete. On top of that, some data might be lost in the process.
Some additional notable features include a boot drive properties report, a test to determine the current antivirus software installed, and a series of shortcuts that launch standard Windows utilities like System Info, System Properties, Device Manager, and Disk Management.
Note: Requires .NET Framework. If you don’t use the application correctly or properly, there could be permanent damage caused to your computer.
